Shanks is still one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece today. He hasn't been shown fighting seriously, while the other Yonko have.
But if according to history, there are four formidable enemies that Shanks has fought in One Piece. Who are they?

1. Dracule Mihawk
Shanks' fight against Mihawk seems to have happened before Shanks visited Foosha. Because when he met Shanks, Mihawk said he was not interested in facing Shanks, who only had one arm.
Shanks' arm has been missing since he helped Luffy.
Although Shanks faced Mihawk before he was granted Yonko status, their fight seemed so epic that even Whitebeard knew of their duel.
It is not yet known how the results of Mihawk and Shanks' duels in the past.

2. Marshall D. Teach
This duel against Marshall D. Teach also seems to have happened in the past. Even before Teach betrayed Whitebeard's group.
Teach was the one who gave Shanks the wound in the face. A wound so iconic that Shanks used it on his group's flag symbol.
When Shanks visited Luffy's village, he even had the wound.
Of course, that meant Teach hurt Shanks when he hadn't even eaten the Yami Yami Fruit.

3. Whitebeard
In the past, Shanks had fought Whitebeard's group when Roger's group and Whitebeard's group met on a small island.
Once he became a Yonko, Shanks had a sword fight with old Whitebeard.
Their clash of strength to make the sky split. The same thing happened when two other Yonko clashed, namely Big Mom and Kaido.
Even so, this duel seemed to end with no one actually winning.

4. Kaido
When Whitebeard was about to help Ace by leading the fleet to Marineford, Kaido tried to attack him.
Shanks' group then intercepted Kaido.
Their battle is not shown. However, Kaido didn't actually go to Marineford, while Shanks and his group arrived at Marineford without any visible injuries or fatigue.
Was Shanks just giving Kaido some sake? Maybe yes, maybe no.
What is clear, Shanks seems to have fought Kaido, either at that moment or at another moment.
In chapter 1001, Kaido said few people could fight him. There were five people he imagined: Oden, Whitebeard, Gol D. Roger, Rocks D. Xebec, and also Shanks.
