One Piece: Various Heartbreaking Things That Luffy Has To Experience

Monkey D. Luffy is a very popular name right now in the world of anime and manga. All thanks to the popularity of the One Piece series, which has been running for more than 20 years. Luffy himself has a big dream, which is to become the pirate king and find One Piece. Currently, Luffy is still trying to make this dream come true.

However, with 20 years having passed, of course there are many stories that have been featured in the One Piece series. And although Luffy is often shown as a goofy figure and likes to joke, there are various sufferings and also sad stories that he must go through. And all those sad stories become part of Luffy's adventure. Anything? Here are some of them.

Experiencing a Hard Past

Normally small children aged 4-10 years get their experience through playing or interacting with each other. However, it is different with Luffy. Since childhood Luffy has had to experience the bad things experienced by children his age. As we know, Luffy has been abandoned by his parents and has to live with mountain bandits.

Relationship between Monkey D. Garp and Monkey D. Luffy Not to mention he also often gets tortured by his grandfather, who wants Luffy to grow into a strong character. He also wants Luffy to be a great marine like himself – even though Luffy himself aspires to be a pirate. Even though it was all done for good, it was quite sad to see children having to be thrown from mountains or tortured so harshly.

Not Long Life

We never know when a character will die. However, from what happened, it looks like Luffy's age will not be long. His lifespan was reduced quite a bit after the terrible moment in Impel Down. At that time, Luffy had to face the head of Impel Down's guard, Magellan, who had the Doku Doku devil fruit. With this devil fruit, Magellan can release deadly poison.

Luffy was hit by Magellan's poison. He hadn't mastered the Armament Haki technique yet, so he couldn't parry Logia's attacks. With all his efforts, Bon Clay managed to get Luffy to meet Emprio Ivankov. Ivankov, using the devil fruit Horu Horu managed to remove the poison in Luffy's body. Unfortunately, there is a price to pay for this healing as Luffy's lifespan is reduced. However, it is unknown how much Luffy's age has been reduced. Ironically, Luffy got injections of this hormone several times.

Missing the Going Merry

The Going Merry is actually not a living being, but Merry is still considered one of the "characters" in the One Piece story. You could say, Merry's "death" was no less emotional than the death of Portgas D. Ace. The Going Merry is the first ship of the Straw Hats, the result of Kaya's gift when Luffy defeated Captain Kuro in Syrupp village.

During his adventure with the Straw Hats, Merry seemed to have a soul of his own. Unfortunately, Merry then had to be destroyed in the Water 7 arc because he was no longer able to withstand the damage. Even though Luffy may seem indifferent and care less than Usopp, the fact is that Luffy also misses Merry a lot. And he was very sad about it.

Losing the Brother

Not knowing family has become a sad thing for Luffy, and he also has to be left by one of the people close to him, a figure he already considers as an older brother. Luffy had to lose Portgas D. Ace before his eyes in the events of the great war at Marineford. This is the biggest loss in Luffy's life.

Previously, Luffy had to "lose" Sabo, although later in the Dressrosa arc Luffy discovered the fact that Sabo was still alive. What is also no less sad is how Luffy must see Ace's death in front of his eyes. Sakazuki's magma fist pierced Ace's body and burned his internal organs. Ace also died. Seeing his brother's death in front of his eyes Luffy immediately fell unconscious.

Never Know Who His Parents

Luffy never knew who his real parents were. This is actually experienced by most of the characters - especially the Straw Hat crew. At first, Luffy didn't know anything about his parents. What he remembers and knows is that he had a grandfather, namely Garp. He also has a "mother" who is none other than Dadan the mountain villain.

However, Luffy later discovered the fact that his parents were still alive, especially his father. He is Monkey D Dragon. Even though Oda Sensei doesn't want to make the One Piece adventure into something that focuses on family matters, still seeing what happened to Luffy makes us all sad and feel sorry for what happened to Luffy.
