Boruto: What's the Difference Between Chidori and Raikiri?

In the story in the Naruto franchise, ninjutsu is a technique that many shinobi master. Almost all shinobi can perform various ninjutsu techniques, although there are also some of them who can't do it like Rock Lee or Might Guy. In ninjutsu, there are many techniques or moves that can be used, one of which is Chidori.

Chidori is a technique that was first introduced in the Naruto series. This technique was used by Hatake Kakashi, before then this technique was taught to Uchiha Sasuke. Chidori itself is a ninjutsu that concentrates the flow of lightning chakra or Raiton, and then the flow of lightning chakra is channeled into the palm of the user's hand.

By gathering the power of the lightning, there will be a large explosion accompanied by the sound of birds. That's why this technique is called 'Chidori' or thousands of birds. This technique was developed by Kakashi himself, because he failed to master the Rasengan technique. That's why Chidori is often considered the "rival" of the Rasengan. Sasuke, Kakashi, and Sarada are characters known to have used this technique.

Kakashi's RaikiriBut, it turns out that there is also another jutsu similar to Chidori, namely Raikiri. With these similarities, fans are often confused in distinguishing them. So, what exactly is the difference between Raikiri and Chidori? Actually, in general, there is no difference between Raikiri and Chidori. Both of these jutsu are both part of Raiton or the flow of electric chakra.

However, some fans feel that Raikiri is much better and stronger than Chidori, which is not wrong. Technically, Raikiri is another name for Chidori used by Kakashi. However, there is another explanation as to why the technique was later called Raikiri. As the name implies, which means 'lightning blade', Raikiri is shown to be able to penetrate or destroy its target quickly.

The name 'Raikiri' itself is believed to have first appeared after Might Guy saw Kakashi who can cut lightning, in one of the filler episodes in the anime. When Kakashi uses this technique, Kakashi's hand looks like a knife, compared to the Chidori technique which focuses on gathering electric chakra flows in the palm of the hand.

So, the conclusion is that technically Raikiri is "another name" for Chidori. However, there are some differences in details from Raikiri and Chidori, such as how the user's hand (Kakashi) looks when using this technique. With the appearance of Sarada in the Boruto series, hopefully Masashi Kishimoto can provide a clearer explanation in distinguishing Chidori and Raikiri in the future.
